A theoretical framework for market design and analysis, appraising recommendations and challenges of market-based TSO-DSO coordination.

Future power systems require efficient, integrated, coordinated and scalable markets to allow both DSOs and TSOs to procure system services necessary for the secured operation of the system. This seminar presents a market design and analysis approach that contributes to the design of integrated electricity markets. The theoretical market framework represents a single and compact tool based on fundamental categories with possible choices. The seminar showcases the application of the framework to 13 real-world demonstrators across Europe concerning the TSO-DSO coordination. The presented application led to the identification of challenges and gaps in designing and integrating the novel system services markets into existing electricity markets.
